Your comments on A3 Nut Hill Fruit Farm car boot sale chaos

There has been a huge reaction from buyers and sellers after organisers of the Nut Hill Fruit Farm Car Boot Sale cancelled Sunday’s event (April 15) unexpectedly.

After two hours of opening the entrance gates to the field just off the southbound carriageway of the A3 between Guildford and Ripley , organisers were forced to close them as the ground was too wet.

The closure caused chaos on both sides of the A3 as buyers attempted to leave the site and people unaware of the closure arrived to bag a bargain.

Police officers issued more than 50 clearway contravention tickets to drivers who had dangerously parked on the busy A3 unable to get into the weekly car boot sale .

Get Surrey reader Ian Dudley says the car boot has been causing problems “for years” on the A3.

“Glad the Police are going after them, but they need to do it every weekend to make a real difference,” he said.

Peter Deakin thinks it is a “mad place” to hold a car boot.

Elizabeth Thomas said she saw a buggy being pushed across the road, adding that she is “surprised no one was hurt”.

Scott Ingram thought a serious accident was inevitable.

Seller Ben Jackson, who arrived at 6.30am to set up, said he spotted parents pushing buggies across the busy A-road.

Mr Jackson, from Witley , said: “It was so unorganised and dangerous, there were literally people pushing buggies across six lanes of the A3 – that is no place for young children. ”

Emma Jennings said it would “never occur to her” to park on the A3 , and Amanda Saunders questioned why people would risk their child’s health.

Jason Shepherd thinks it was “obvious” that the event would not happen after the recent weather, and Lisa Botana tried to attend the car boot but couldn’t get in.
