Yateley Halloween crime spree: Six youths arrested as police explore further leads

Six youngsters have been arrested as part of a probe into a crime spree in Yateley on Halloween night.

Hampshire Constabulary said among those arrested were a 12-year-old girl from Blackwater and a 12-year-old boy from Yateley.

Also arrested were two 13-year-old Yateley boys, a 14-year-old boy from Hayling Island and a 15-year-old boy from Yateley.

All six have been released but remain under investigation.

Additionally, a 13-year-old girl from Sandhurst voluntarily attended a police station where she was interviewed under caution.

A police spokesman said: “Our enquiries are continuing. We have spoken to a number of victims on what happened on the night of Tuesday 31 October.

“We are appealing for anyone who has yet to come forward to do so by calling 101 and quoting 44170424457.”

The force is asking for CCTV owners to check their footage after it received a total of 23 reports of cars being damaged in the town overnight on Tuesday (October 31).

Damage reported included scratches to the paint work, damage to soft top roof fabric, broken windows and slashed tyres.

Cars were targeted in the School Lane, Lymington Avenue, Dickens Way, Cornfields, Catesby Gardens, Ryves Avenue, Tresham Crescent and Tesimond Drive areas. Police said the incidents are being treated as linked.

Posting on Facebook on Saturday afternoon (November 4), the Yateley Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “A number of arrests have been made today relating to the series of criminal damage incidents which occurred on the evening of October 31, 2017.

“These arrests have generated further leads and police will be following these up over the coming days. We ask that residents remain patient as this investigation continues.”
