Woman in 30s stabbed to death in ‘tragic and shocking’ daylight attack in Ewell

A murder investigation has been launched after a woman in her 30s was stabbed to death in broad daylight in Ewell.

Surrey Police said that it was called to the A24 London Road, near to Nonsuch Park, at around 3pm on Friday (February 8).

Officers were responding to reports that a woman in her 30s, who was in the road, was stabbed by a “man who got out of a vehicle”.

Police say a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and a second man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. These arrests did not happen at the scene.

As of 7.20pm on Friday London Road remained closed following the incident.

Chief Inspector Michael Hodder, from Surrey Police, said in a statement that the victim and the suspect are known to each other.

He added: “This was a tragic and shocking incident in which a woman has lost her life after being attacked in broad daylight. Our thoughts are with her friends and family at this time.

“At this stage we believe the victim and suspect are known to each other. We realise there will be a number of questions about what has happened, which we will try to answer when we can and would ask the public not to speculate.”

The statement added that there is an increased police presence in the area to investigate and support the community following the attack, which is believed to have been witnessed by a number of people.
