Witnesses who heard screams during ‘altercation’ between man and woman in Byfleet sought by police

Witnesses who may have heard screaming during an “altercation” between a man and a woman in Byfleet are being sought by police.

Surrey Police , officers were called at 4.20pm on Saturday (September 15) to reports of a ma and woman being involved in an altercation at the side of the River Wey.

Police understand that the man and woman are known to each other.

It is believed the reported altercation took place near a pipe bridge over the River Wey, not far from the Weymede housing area.

Police believe the incident was witnessed by a number of people who were in the area at the time.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Emma Vallins said: “We have had a number of people get in touch, but we are keen to hear from those who haven’t already contacted us, and may have heard screaming from the area.

“We believe this incident would have caused a commotion and are asking for anyone who saw what happened, or the build up to it to get in touch with us by calling us on 101, or use report.police.uk and quote the reference number PR/P18223073.”
