West Byfleet death: Police appeal for help identifying potential witness in CCTV images

Detectives investigating the death of Asif Ali Nawaz are appealing for help in identifying a potential witness.

Police believe the man, pictured in CCTV images, may have vital information in relation to the death of Mr Nawaz, 34, whose body was found in the Basingstoke Canal at Woodham Lock in West Byfleet on July 15.

The man was seen walking towards the canal at 1.11am on July 15. He used the underpass at West Byfleet station before turning down Woodlands Avenue and into Birchwood Road.

Surrey Police stresses that the man is a potential witness and is not believed to be involved in Mr Nawaz’s death at all.

Mr Nawaz’s death is being treated as non-suspicious and an investigation into the circumstances of his death continues.
