Thunderstorms could hit Surrey as the Met Office issues a yellow warning for Friday (July 13).

The majority of Surrey remains unaffected by the warning issued on Wednesday (July 11) but rain is expected on Friday afternoon and the warning could expand into the county.

The forecast for Guildford has a 50% of rainfall from with highs of 24°C from 4pm according to the Met Office.

Temperatures remain above normal for most and in the south east it could continue to be hot and humid for much of the time.

However, there is always the chance of a thundery shower to bring some vital rainfall which could mean an end to the heatwave is in sight.

The warning reads: “Heavy showers, which will most likely become thundery in places, are expected to develop quite widely across parts of England and Wales later Friday morning and through the afternoon.

“Some of the showers are likely to become focused into slow-moving bands, particularly over southwest England, with some locations receiving around 20mm in an hour.

“As is the nature of showers however, many places within the warning area will miss them altogether, and have a dry day.”

A spokesman from The Weather Channel said there was a risk of slightly more unsettled and cooler conditions developing in the UK towards the middle of next week.

Some early forecasts suggest more changeable weather heading towards the UK, with slightly stronger winds and less sunshine, but confidence in the long-range forecast is low.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Chris could influence the UK’s weather too with the chance of rain.

Further ahead, lower pressure is expected to reduce temperatures to near and then slightly-below normal, and with slightly increased precipitation and wind expected.
