These are the most popular baby names in the UK so far in 2018

Does your baby have one of the most popular names being given to newborn girls and boys in 2018?

Well, the latest research shows the most popular boys’ name of the year so far in the UK is Muhammad. After briefly moving down to number two in 2016, Muhammad is firmly back in the top spot for the second year running.

Other popular boys’ names are Oliver, Noah, George, Harry, Leo, Charlie, Jack, Freddie and Alfie.

The most popular girls’ name is Olivia, which has been top of the charts for the past three years. It derives from the Latin for ‘olive tree’, which is often viewed as a symbol of peace.

Following closely behind Olivia are the names Sophia, Amelia, Lily, Emily, Ava, Isla, Aria, Mia and Isabella.

Some of Surrey’s celebrities have popular names too.

Comedian, author and television presenter Harry Hill was born in Woking and has the fifth most popular name in the UK charts.

Henry – the medieval form of Harry – means “ruler of the home”, a title Hill would no doubt be happy with.

Charlotte Hawkins – part of the Good Morning Britain team – is a Surrey resident and has the 13th most popular name for girls.

Although not popular enough to make the top 10 list, the name Charlotte has climbed four places in 2018.
