Teenager shot in Witley remains ‘seriously injured’ in hospital as pair released from custody

Two people have been released from custody while a teenager remains in hospital after being shot in Witley.

Emergency services were called to Lea Coach Road near Godalming at around 9pm on Monday (July 9).

Surrey Police officers discovered the young boy at the scene with serious injuries, believed to be caused by a firearm.

Two people arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and conspiracy to murder have since been released from custody.

A man in his 50s from Thursley arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been released under conditional bail, Surrey Police said.

Meanwhile a woman in her 40s, also from Thursley, arrested for conspiracy to murder has been released under investigation.

On Wednesday (July 11) a police spokesman said: “The boy remains in hospital with serious injuries, but they not deemed to be life-threatening at this stage.”

The police has issued reassurance to residents in the area and the rest of Godalming following the incident.

Inspector Gary Smith, of the Waverley Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “I understand that residents in Waverley must be concerned by the events of Monday night.

“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances around the incident, and still believe this was an isolated event.

“We have seized the firearm believed to be used in the incident, and there is nothing to indicate any other persons are at risk.”

He continued: “If anyone does have any concerns around what happened, please contact the Waverley Safer Neighbourhood Team by calling 101, and we will be more than happy to provide advice to you.”

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service previously confirmed crews in two cars and one ambulance were called to the car park area of the National Trust’s Witley and Milford Commons.

It was added that the teenager was treated for injuries to his hand and was taken to St George’s Hospital in London.
