Surrey weather warning for 55mph gusts and ‘short bursts of heavy rain’

Surrey could be battling the elements once more on Thursday (March 14) as the Met Office has issued another yellow warning for “strong winds” across the south of England

High wind speeds are expected throughout the day, including “short bursts of heavy rain”.

The Met Office has warned to expect some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport in the county while some bus and train services may take longer than expected.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Strong winds are expected through Thursday, with a short period of particularly gusty conditions across parts of northern England early in the morning, moving southeastwards across other parts of England by late morning.

“Gusts of 45-55 mph are likely, perhaps as much as 60-65 mph very briefly in a few places, accompanied by a short burst of heavy rain.

“Winds easing a little during the afternoon, though remaining gusty.”

The yellow warning was issued in the early hours of Thursday morning and will remain in place until 1pm. This follows a yellow warning for strong winds on Wednesday (March 13).

Temperatures in Surrey will peak at around 12°C on Thursday and it will be largely cloudy with brief sunny spells. Rain is forecast overnight from around 10pm.
