See the absolute carnage replacement bus services are causing at Redhill station

February 25, 2018

Hundreds of people trying to go on holiday have been left stranded in “dangerous” queues at Redhill train station on Sunday (February 25).

Replacement bus services from Redhill and other stations towards Gatwick Airport have been left heavily oversubscribed with a huge number of people venting their frustration on social media.

A few pictures show several hundred people trying to board a bus at Redhill while others have stated there is delay chaos at other stations including Three Bridges in Crawley.

Meanwhile on Twitter one person has stated there is a total of three Southern Rail staff “trying to manage thousands of passengers, including children, disabled and elderly, on tight stairways and lifts. Sort it – or someone going to get hurt.”

It is reported that the heavy queues have been ongoing for as long as six hours but no exact time has been confirmed.

Philip Normal tweeted to Southern Rail: “The queues that are forming on stairwells at Redhill are really dangerous! I hope you’re offering refunds and compensation to those missing flights because of your appalling management.”

A number of people have stated that they have or at risk of missing their flight and questioned whether they will be getting compensation from Southern Rail.

Ronan Lee tweeted: “Flight from Munich to London Gatwick took 90 mins. Rail replacement bus from airport to London has taken longer already… currently sitting at Redhill station. Lots of grumpy passengers.”

Pictures also show people having to travel standing up on the buses as there are not enough seats to cater for demand.

Emma Inch took this photo of the queues at Redhill station and said: No one can get in or out of the station. Total gridlock whilst people (inc children older people) struggle to get buses due to engineering work. Doesn’t feel very safe.
