Redhill electrical cupboard fire at high-rise block of flats leads to resident evacuation

A floor of a high-rise block of flats in Redhill was evacuated after a fire broke out in an electrical cupboard.

Seven fire engines attended The Dome in Dome Way at around 3.35pm on Friday afternoon (March 10).

Firefighters tackled the fire in the electrical cupboard with dry powder extinguishers.

A firefighter from Reigate fire station said: “It was a full attendance for a high-rise building. Until you know for sure what you’re in for you need the full attendance [as a precaution].”

Crews remained on the scene until around 5.45pm to make the scene safe.

Extra firefighters were alerted to the incident as it was a high-rise building and there was the risk the fire could spread quickly.

The density of residents that live in high rise buildings was also taken into consideration by the fire service.

There were no reported injuries.
