Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, inspected the Royal Logistics Corps (RLC) during a parade to mark the corps’ 25th anniversary on Wednesday (April 18).

Formed on April 5 1993 from an amalgamation of five other corps, the RLC is the army’s largest body of troops and is responsible for keeping soldiers supplied wherever they are, as well as carrying out other duties including bomb disposal.

On Wednesday, 460 troops from all units of the RLC paraded at Brunswick Barracks in Pirbright . They were inspected by Princess Anne, the corps’ Colonel-in-Chief, and Lieutenant-General Mark Poffley, the Master General of Logistics.

The princess arrived on the parade square in a Rolls Royce that had previously belonged to Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery – the famous “Monty” who commanded British troops in North Africa and Europe during the Second World War.

The car now sits in pride of place at the RLC’s museum , situated by the corps’ headquarters in Deepcut. During the war, it was driven onto a Normandy beach just two days after D-Day, accompanying Montgomery throughout the campaign.

During the parade, the Princess Royal congratulated the corps on reaching its 25th anniversary and presented RLC stable belts to 36 of the soldiers.

The RLC recently reintroduced the red, black and gold stable belt for all soldiers serving in the corps.

Following the parade, Princess Anne was introduced to members of the corps and their families and posed for a photograph with the troops on the parade square.

She was also presented with a posie of flowers by six-year-old Evie Jones, whose father Stewart is a sergeant in 17 Port and Maritime Regiment RLC.
