Police are investigating a suspicious early-morning blaze in Horley on Wednesday (July 2).

Three engines and an aerial ladder were needed to control the fire in Massetts Road which began at around 3.45am.

Chris Wasson, crew commander at Epsom, said the blaze started when a large pile of timber caught fire close to a house being built in the road.

Engines from Reigate, Horely, Crawley and an aerial ladder platform from Horsham were called to the scene. Firefighters used two breathing apparatus, two main jets and a hose reel to control the blaze.

Mr Watson said: “The incident is being investigated by the police and fire investigation officers because we believe it could have been deliberate.”
