One day of planned strike action on South Western Railway (SWR) services has been suspended.

Workers from the national union for rail, maritime and transport workers (RMT) planned the industrial action for Saturday (August 11) but it has now been suspended “to allow for further talks to take place”, SWR said.

The RMT wants a guarantee there will be a trained guard on all SWR services, which they say is a matter of “public safety, security and access”.

On Thursday (August 9), SWR said the strike had been suspended but that three further days of industrial action remained in place.
