A man has been sentenced to 10 years and 10 months in prison for causing life-threatening injuries to a man in a preplanned “brutal and ruthless” stabbing in Guildford .

Mohammed Abubaker, 26, of Ludovick Walk in Wandsworth, was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court on Thursday (April 12) for stabbing a man five times, intending to cause him serious bodily harm.

The victim, a man in his 20s, arranged to meet a friend in Oak Hill Road in Wood Street Village on July 5 last year when Mr Abubaker turned up and attacked him while the victim was sat in his car, the court heard.

As the victim attempted to run away, Mr Abubaker continued to pursue him and stabbed him as he ran.

The victim was driven to hospital by his friends and arrived in a critical condition having suffered huge blood loss, the court heard.

Summarising the case on Thursday, Judge Jonathan Black said the victim had suffered both physical and emotional trauma and now found it difficult to leave the house.

Speaking to the defendant before he was sentenced, the judge added: “The victim received life-threatening injuries. You quite clearly planned this in advance.”

After the stabbing a probe by the Criminal Investigation Department took place to locate who was responsible for the attack.

Detective Constable Richard Pegden, of the Criminal Investigation Department, said: “This was a brutal and ruthless attack and clear that the intention was to cause serious injury to the victim.

“The investigation consisted of a number of elements which required a real team effort, securing a charge for attempted murder.

“Mr Abubaker pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm, on the second day of his trial, in February this year.

“Two cars which had been used in the incident were seized and the painstaking work of the forensic team meant that crucial evidence was found within both vehicles, placing Mr Abubaker at the scene of the crime.

“A partially burnt mobile phone, which belonged to the victim, was also recovered near to the scene which enabled detectives to link the victim and Mr Abubaker.

“I would like to thank the victim for speaking out and bravely reliving this terrible and violent ordeal. I hope that today’s outcome will give him the closure he deserves.

Surrey Police do not tolerate the despicable behaviour that Mr Abubaker showed on that night in July 2017, and we will do everything we can to ensure those who carry weapons, and use them, are brought to justice.”
