Man airlifted to hospital in ‘serious condition’ after fixing broken lift shaft in Staines

A man was airlifted to hospital in a “serious condition” from London Road, Staines on Thursday (September 20).

Police responded to concerns of the safety of a man who was fixing a broken lift shaft at around 3pm.

A cordon was put in place to allow emergency services to treat the victim and airlift him to St St George’s Hospital in Tooting.

A spokesman for Surrey Police said: “The man has been taken to hospital, and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.”

Fire crews from Egham and Staines assisted at the incident with South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) and SECAmb’s Hazardous Area Response Team.

A spokesman for SECAmb said: “We responded to a call to London Road to reports of a man in need of medical attention. A man was airlifted to St George’s Hospital, Tooting in a serious condition.”
