The controversial smart motorway section between junction 2 and junction 4A for Farnborough and Fleet, passing Bagshot, Lightwater, Camberley and Frimley, has long been the subject of fiery debate among M3 motorists .

Many have complained about the lack of a hard shoulder , stripped out to increase capacity on the busy stretch, as well as the periodic refuge areas which replace the hard shoulder.

A spokesman for Highways England said: “This is a relatively minor change to the existing 50mph speed limit around junction 2 of the M3.”

“We encourage anyone with a view to have their say.”
