Budding champion Jodie Burrage has landed a wildcard into Junior Wimbledon.

The 16-year old from Hindhead had been waiting anxiously over the past week to hear whether the LTA would grant her another wildcard into the girls’ singles, having received one 12 months ago.

“I am so excited to be playing Wimbledon for the second year running,” Burrage told Get Surrey.

“I can’t wait to experience that amazing atmosphere again and have a home crowd support me.

“This year I feel more prepared and am looking to hopefully win a couple of matches.

“It will be another completely unforgettable experience for me.”

Last year Burrage lost in the first round to Ipek Soylu, a vastly more experienced 18-year old who had represented Turkey in the Federation Cup and was already ranked inside the women’s world top 400.

On the plus side, she got to meet her idol Roger Federer, – the seven times Wimbledon men’s singles champion leaving the youngster speechless when he stopped to pose for a picture with her.

The teenager has recently been forced to miss a number of tournaments while taking her GCSE exams, in turn affecting her world ranking which is currently outside the top 100, and meant she was dependent on a wildcard to reach SW19 again.

Junior Wimbledon is open to the top young players in the world aged 18 and under with boys and girls competing over the best of three sets on the All England Club’s grass courts.

Previous winners have included Pat Cash, Federer and Martina Hingis, who all went on to win the senior tournament.
