Hungry driver fined after failing to hold wheel while travelling at ‘motorway speeds’ for more than 20 seconds

This hungry driver might have filled his stomach but was left with empty pockets after being spotted eating in his car by police.

The man was seen driving “at motorway speeds” while tucking into a sandwich on Monday (March 12).

Surrey Police caught him eating his food while having no hands on the wheel for more than 20 seconds.

The force’s Roads Policing Unit tweeted that the driver was pulled over and given a ticket for “driving while not in proper control” .

The tweet read: “This hungry driver had no hands on the wheel for over 20 seconds while he fed himself his sarnies from his Tupperware box while driving at motorway speeds.

“He was stopped shortly after and given a ticket for driving while not in proper control.”

The incident was highlighted as part of a nationwide project known as Operation Tramline.

It aims to reduce collisions, cut the number of incidents and improve road safety and reliability on motorways and major roads.

Officers man an unmarked HGV cab which is driven on major roads. They stopped 572 vehicles in the last couple of weeks of January alone on the M25 , M23 and A3 .

If you are caught driving without proper control you will receive a £100 fine and three penalty points on your licence by way of a fixed penalty notice.
