Here’s what’s happening about appointments after Chiddingfold Surgery fire

Patients with appointments booked at Chiddingfold Surgery will be contacted about rearranging them after a fire destroyed the building, the CCG that runs it has said.

A fire broke out and caused significant damage to the building on Monday (January 7).

Staff from NHS Guildford and Waverley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Surrey Heartlands CCG are working with GPs and primary care staff at Chiddingfold Surgery to find alternative ways of providing a service.

The surgery serves around 4,700 patients.

A statement from Guildford and Waverley CCG reads: “Patients are advised that routine appointments will be re-arranged as soon as possible and will be contacted directly by the surgery. Anyone who needs to see a GP urgently should call NHS 111 and they will be offered appropriate medical treatment and advice.

“Those wishing to make a routine appointment can call NHS 111 to seek advice or use Chiddingfold Surgery’s usual telephone number.”

The CCG said AE should not be used as an alternative to a GP appointment unless it is an emergency.

Call handlers on the NHS 111 number are directing patients to appropriate services such as the minor injuries unit at Haslemere Hospital and pharmacies in the area.

Plans are also being put in place so that Chiddingfold Surgery staff can provide services from an alternative base in Milford from later this week until a longer-term solution is found.

This is likely to be a limited service for a few weeks though.

The CCG statement added: “Patient security has been of the utmost importance. Clinical records are stored electronically and have been for many years and so these have been unaffected by the fire and remain accessible to the GP surgery.”

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is currently under investigation. There were no casulties.

Jeremy Hunt, MP for South West Surrey, said: “I was deeply shocked and saddened on the news of the fire at Chiddingfold Surgery. Fortunately no one appears to have been hurt in the blaze, but this is devastating news for the community.

“My sincere thanks go to the fire crew and those who helped at the scene. I will do everything I can to help the brilliant medical team there get the surgery back on its feet.”
