Guildford Borough Council ‘sorry to hear’ of death at York Road car park

Guildford Borough Council has reacted to the “sad death” of a man who was found in a wooded area in the town centre.

Enquiries remain ongoing into the death of a man who was found with “serious injuries” next to the York Road car park on Monday afternoon (October 8).

The man, who police say was aged in his 50s , was found at around 3.25pm. He was treated by ambulance crews but was pronounced dead at the scene at around 4pm.

A spokesman for Guildford Borough Council , said: “We are very sorry to hear about the sad death at York Road car park. The police are leading the investigation and we cannot comment whilst it is ongoing.”


A large emergency service presence was reported in the area including eight police cars, three paramedic cars and one ambulance. The car park remained closed while police dealt with the incident.

A spokesman for Surrey Police said: “A man with serious injuries who was discovered in a wooded area next to the York Road car park in Guildford has sadly died.

“An investigation is under way to establish the circumstances of his death.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious so the file will be passed to the Coroner’s office in due course.”
