Former Toys ‘R’ Us shop in Woking looks set to be demolished after 33 years of trading

August 29, 2018

The former home of Toys ‘R’ Us in Woking looks set to be demolished.

A planning application for the destruction of the Shoppers’ Red Car Park is expected to be waved through a Woking Borough Council (WBC) planning committee meeting with officers saying that “prior approval is not required”.

WBC has said it plans to build a new ten-storey car park at the site which would increase the number of bays from 887 to 1,382.

However, this would mean that the car park would be out of action for almost two years as the demolition would begin in October this year and is not due to be completed until September 2020.

If plans are indeed approved by the WBC planning committee, the former Toys ‘R’ Us retail space would be knocked down.
