Firefighters called to tackle blaze on top of roof at St Martin’s Walk in Dorking town centre

Firefighters from all over Surrey were called to tackle a blaze near the centre of Dorking on Monday, March 12.

The fire took place on top of a roof at St Martin’s Walk at roughly 10pm where two refuse bins were alight.

A Surrey Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “We received a call at around 10.05pm yesterday evening (March 12) about a fire in St Martin’s Walk, Dorking.

“Three fire engines were sent to deal with a small fire on the roof of a property and we left the scene at around 1am.”

A tweet from the Surrey Fire and Rescue account also said: “Fire crews from Dorking, Leatherhead , Reigate and aerial ladder platform from Guildford plus support pump attending reports of a roof fire on St Martins Walk in Dorking @SurreyPolice also attending.”

Surrey Police have been contacted for information regarding if an investigation into the cause of the fire is taking place but they have not yet replied.

Simon Strudwick, a resident, said: “It wasn’t that bad, obviously at night the flames looked really bright, had it been daylight you wouldn’t have seen it.
