Elderly man, 77, ‘pronounced dead at the scene’ after being struck by a train near Liss

An elderly man, 77, from Petersfield was “pronounced dead at the scene” after being struck by a train on Thursday (January 10).

The incident happened close to Liss railway station in Hampshire, just after 10am.

All power was switched off on the line from Haslemere to Havant, to allow emergency services to access the railway.

A spokesman for British Transport Police (BTP) said: “Officers were called to the line close to Liss station after 10am after reports of a person being struck by a train. 

“Paramedics also attended however a person has sadly been pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.”

Latest news

A replacement bus service operated from Guildford to Haslemere until all lines reopened at around 3.30pm. Disruption lasted on the railway line until 7pm.

The incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner, according to BTP.
