Good news for Surrey Heath travellers, as direct peak time services from Camberley to London have been saved.

A number of Surrey’s South Western Railway (SWR) services were at risk of being axed but they have been saved after a public outcry.

The operator held a consultation about proposed changes to its new timetable which will be introduced in December 2018. Publishing the results of the process on Wednesday (April 4), SWR said it had reviewed several of the changes that had been proposed.

The consultation outcome report reads: “Our face to face meetings, discussions with MPs and feedback emails told us that the loss of the direct Camberley peak service to and from London was not well received even though a faster journey time would be achievable by changing at Ash Vale.

SWR’s woes

“We have re-analysed the capacity for services through Ascot in the peak and will plan that direct services will be maintained from and to Frimley, Camberley and Bagshot with London Waterloo in the peak,” it reads.

“In both the morning and evening peaks we propose to run three direct services which would mean an additional direct service in the evening peak period compared to today.”
