Detectives investigating the death of Aliny Mendes have been granted more time to question a suspect.

A man in his 40s, from Epsom, remains in police custody after detectives were granted more time by Guildford Magistrates’ Court to complete enquiries. He was arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday (February 8).

Aliny Mendes, 39, died at the roadside shortly after police were called following reports a woman had been stabbed at the Sparrow Farm Road junction of London Road in Ewell.

Detective Chief Inspector, Mark Chapman, said: “We are working incredibly hard to piece together what happened during this shocking incident, and are doing all we can to support Aliny’s family.

“I want to reassure the public that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident, but we have PCSOs and officers continuing to patrol Ewell and provide reassurance to the local community.

“We continue to ask for any witnesses to make contact with us, anything you saw could really assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information should contact Surrey Police on 101 (999 in an emergency) or online, quoting reference PR/45190014238.
