A company that dumped a waste including a shopping trolley and broken table at a Smallfield primary school has been heavily fined.

Silva Brothers Logistics Ltd of Balfour Road, Acton, was found guilty of dumping the waste at Burstow Primary School in July 2017.

The company was also convicted on February 4 at Guildford Magistrates’ Court of failing to provide information requested by Tandridge District Council (TDC).

The company will now pay £3,570 in fines, victim support and legal costs.

On July 31 2017, two men driving a van leased to Silva Brothers Logistics Ltd unloaded items including a shopping trolley, building waste, wood and a large broken wooden table and left them by the bins of the school.

Investigations proved the company was responsible for the vehicle at the time and failed to provide information to trace the two men who had dumped the waste.

The company was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay £170 to the victim support fund, plus the council’s legal costs of £1,400.

The incident was caught on CCTV cameras managed by the school and Burstow Parish Council and was reported to TDC.

Councillor Pat Cannon, chair of the community services committee for TDC, said: “This case illustrates the lengths to which our officers and councillors will go to make sure those who dispose of waste unlawfully don’t get away with it.”
