CCTV released of brazen pickpocket at Waitrose in West Byfleet

A brazen pickpocket was caught in the act at the Waitrose supermarket in West Byfleet.

Surrey Police has released the CCTV footage as a reminder to the public to remain vigilant and “protect their pockets”.

In the footage, taken on December 7 last year, a smartly dressed man can be seen waiting in the foyer of the Station Approach supermarket before walking up behind the victim and taking an item from his coat.

A spokesman said: “We are asking the public to be on guard to protect their pockets following CCTV released that demonstrates how quickly things can be taken from them.

“The incident depicted in the CCTV took place outside the Waitrose supermarket in West Byfleet on December 7.”

He pleaded guilty to the offence at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, January 2, and was fined £280 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30, according to Surrey Police.
