Two officers were assaulted after police were called out to reports of a “disturbance” in Reigate.

Surrey Police said officers were called out to Vevers Road at around 8.20am on Thursday morning (March 14).

A police statement said: “Officers attended and attempted to restrain the man for his own safety.

“The man assaulted two officers while he was being arrested, leaving them with minor injuries.”

Police said a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and assaulting a police officer.

The man was taken to hospital but has been discharged and is currently in custody, police said.

The police statement added: “We would like to reassure the local community that this was an isolated incident and that there was never any threat to the wider public.”

Writing on social media, Reigate and Banstead police said: “This was during the school rush and we are aware lots of parents with young children would have been witness to this.”

South East Coast Ambulance (SECAmb) did not attend the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Surrey Police on 101 (999 in an emergency) or online quoting reference P19058545.
