The front window of a former sandwich shop in Aldershot has been left in shards after it was smashed by youths.

The shop in North Lane, which is believed to have been unoccupied for several years now, was visited by the vandals on two consecutive days.

Police received reports that youths were causing damage to abandoned buildings on both Sunday (May 13) and Monday (May 14) evenings.

Images from the scene appear to show a gaping hole in the front window of the shop, exposing it to the elements.

Further images show the path of destruction continuing inside the building, with parts of the old shop counter lying on the floor in bits.

North Lane resident Ryan Blake was walking past the shop on Tuesday morning when he noticed the damage. He said: “The windows have been smashed and there is also damage to the unoccupied flats above the shop.”

He added: “It just shows what people get up to around here. Lots of people are getting away with this and it seems to happen a lot.”

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: “We received reports on Monday evening (May 14) that youths were causing damage to abandoned buildings on North Lane, Aldershot.

“Damage to the buildings is also reported to have been caused the previous evening.”

He added that neighbourhood officers have been made aware of the reports and are making enquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
