A3 San Domenico fire: Crew from Painshill and Chertsey tackle rubbish fire at iconic site

Fire crew from Painshill and Chertsey tackled a fire outside the derelict San Domenico site in Cobham on Tuesday evening (January 16).

Firefighters were called out at around 7.40pm to deal with a rubbish fire at the back of the building.

Surrey Fire and Rescue warned on Twitter that the incident could be seen from the A3 northbound between Wisley and Cobham.

A spokesman for Painshill station said: “We were called out at around 7.40pm to deal with a rubbish fire around the back of the building.

“It took us about twenty minutes to deal with in total.”

Petrol station forecourt operator Euro Garages bought the 6.5-acre A3 site back in March 2016.

Despite initial plans to run a charity shop on the site, the building has remained vacant since.
