With September in full swing, there are plenty of autumnal events around Surrey for you to enjoy.

From Chobham and District Agricultural and Horticultural Show to a birds of prey day at Claremont Landscape Garden, you’re sure to find something worth getting out of the house for – plus there are free pretzels on offer at the launch of Auntie Anne’s bakery in Staines.

Cheap and free things to do with the kids

1. CHOBHAM: Chobham and District Agricultural and Horticultural Show returns on Saturday September 16 with various exhibits including a special class for heaviest pumpkin. Address: Chobham Village Hall, Station Road, GU24 8AZ. Open from 2pm-5.30pm.

2. COBHAM: The Red Heart Charity Ball in aid of The British Heart Foundation will be held on Saturday September 16 at Silvermere Golf Club. Enjoy a spectacular evening of music, great food and dancing from 7.30pm-midnight. Tickets cost £48 per person and including a sparkling reception, three-course dinner, music and raffle. 3. DORKING: On Saturday September 16, Va-Riotous Productions will perform Gullible’s Travels – a slightly inaccurate retelling in words and music of Jonathan Swift’s epic tale of adventure in honour of his 350th birthday. 4. EPSOM: The Epsom Garden Society Autumn Show returns to St Martin’s Junior School on Saturday September 16, from 2pm-4pm. You’ll find fun categories for children, novices and experts to enter, a plant sale, raffle and refreshments. Address: Ashley Road, KT18 7AD. Free entry.

5. ESHER: Birds of prey day at Claremont Landscape Garden on Sunday September 17 from 10.30am-4.30pm. Get up close to see and learn more about eagles, falcons and other magnificent birds, plus enjoy two flying displays during the day. Address: Claremont Landscape Garden, KT10 9JG. 6. ESHER: The 30th birthday of one of Britain’s most popular toy fairs takes place at Sandown Park on Saturday September 16. The event will see hundreds of collectors and dealers from all over the world buy and sell collectible toys. Address: Sandown Park, Portsmouth Road, KT10 9AJ. The fair is open from 10.30am-3pm. Traders set up from 8am. Adults £6, senior citizens £5.50 and children £2 (under 5s free).

7. FARNBOROUGH: People who want to learn to ride a motorcycle or scooter will get the chance to try for free on September 16 and 17. Get On, which is the motorcycle industry’s free ‘try out’ programme, will be offering 45-minute taster sessions at the town’s driving test centre at Aerospace Boulevard. Sessions will be available between 9am and 5.15pm each day. Address: Hercules Way, GU14 6UU.

9. STAINES: Auntie Anne’s will open its 33rd UK store in the Elmsleigh Shopping Centre on Saturday September 16. Located in the central area of the shopping precinct, FREE pretzels will be handed out to shoppers between 11am and 2pm on the opening day to celebrate the launch. Address: South Street, TW18 4QF.
